Internship

Week 1: So here it was, my first week of my internship, January 2016. I was to begin my internship at the Asian American Donor Program, which is a company which sets up bone marrow drives in order for patients to have a bone marrow match. Our family has a close relationship with this company, due to my sister being a patient, and having several drives for her, which I've attended in the past. So here was my first week, and I was rather nervous. The tasks at hand were rather simple. What they pretty much always did every day was put barcode stickers on the items they use for donor kits. I was rather nervous communicating with new people, although I did have a classmate there as well. I made about 6 donor kits, which looking back is very little, however I was still learning so I'll let it slide.

Week 2: Well I pretty much got the hang of it, and it didn't take long. We continued to do our kit making, while engaging in conversation with fellow interns, and whatnot, creating enjoyful experiences daily. I was no longer shy, for the environemtn was rather relaxed, and the supervisors would allow you to grab a snack or watch TV. I made my first 10 this week.

Week 3: This week followed the upward trend of me making more kits, averaging around 20-30. I was also asked to help gather bone marrow drive materials and equipments and put them into the vehicle.

Week 4: This week was an awesome one, where not only did I do my normal internship days, my sister got to celebrate her birthday here, while me and many of my cousins made some kits. We made a ton, with a total of around 200. This week I also volunteered extra hours, making around 50 kits!

Week 5: This week I was able to train other learners to do community service here as well, plus I was able to cut out flyers, and make more and more kits!

Closing Report: This whole experience, was pretty much the highlight of my school year, if you will. I am glad that ACLC engages you into an internship program, bring you one step closer to the real world. This made me even consider working here in the future. All in all, great experience.
